We are enriching the day of smoked beer preservation on July 23rd with another special edition: the HELLES MÄRZEN. For the pale Märzen we use a lighter smoked malt that is smoked over open beechwood, just like the classic Märzen. This gives the beer a bright amber color and the typical aroma of Aecht Schlenkerla Smokebeer, which is so appreciated by aficionados all over the world. The taste is smoother than the classic Märzen, but with a more pronounced smoky aroma. This unfiltered special edition commemorates the long tradition of our Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier: On July 23rd 1635 the first smoke-free malt drying machine was patented. Subsequently smoke free beers became dominant and smoked beer turned into a rare specialty. Only in Bamberg the traditional smoke kiln was preserved continuously until today: At Schlenkerla the open fire still burns in the maltings.
